What The First Horse Started, The Next Three Finish (Seals 2-4)

• A world at war with God will eventually be given over to the wrath of God.

When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, "Come and see." Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword. — Revelation 6:3-4

• The only way to have peace with God is to receive the peace of God through the Son of God.

When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come and see." So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, "A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine." — Revelation 6:5-6

• A world that rejected the fullness of God will be famished without God.

When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, "Come and see." So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth. — Revelation 6:7-8

• Jesus Christ has been to Death and Hades and came back holding the keys.

• We must not forget—hell breaks loose on earth because the Lamb is breaking the seals in heaven.

Discussion Questions

1. The sermon established that the four horses ride in sequence — deception leads to war, war leads to famine, famine leads to death. Where do you see this pattern already operating in the world around you? How does recognizing it as spiritual preparation rather than political instability change how you respond to current events?

2. Peace was not lost in seal 2 — it was taken. The sermon drew a distinction between the false peace the world chases and the peace purchased at the cross that cannot be removed. What is the difference between the peace the world offers and the peace of God described in Romans 5:1 and Colossians 1:20? Have you experienced that difference personally?

3. The black horse reveals that whoever controls the food controls the people. The sermon connected engineered scarcity to expanding antichrist authority. In what ways are you already dependent on systems outside your control? How does that dependency shape your faith and your sense of security?

4. The sermon said — a world that rejected the fullness of God will be famished without God. They refused the bread of life and got famine. They refused the living water and got thirst. The shape of the punishment is the exact shape of what they refused. What does this tell us about the nature of God's judgment? Is it cruel — or is it consequence?

5. Christ holds the keys of Death and Hades — Revelation 1:18. The pale horse has power but Christ has the keys. What is the practical difference between knowing about Christ and actually knowing Christ — especially in light of what these four seals describe? What does it mean for your daily life to be on the right side of those keys?
