Seven Churches | Laodicea: The Cure For A Sick Church (Part 2)
December 7, 2025
The Gospel confronts us before it converts us.
Revelation 3:18
I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.
Christ upends what we rely on so that we end up relying on Him.
Revelation 3:19
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.
Revelation 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
The One who is the Door, who opens and closes doors, is knocking at the door.
Revelation 3:21
To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
Revelation 3:22
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
All have ears, but not all can hear.

Discussion Questions
- Confronted or Comfortable — Revelation 3:18; Hebrews 12:6Jesus’ cure begins with confronting our misplaced confidence. What are the most common “Laodicean comforts” believers rely on today instead of Christ?
- True Wealth or False Security — Revelation 3:18; 1 Peter 1:7Christ counsels His people to buy gold refined in the fire. What does “true wealth” look like in a believer’s life? How has God used testing to purify or prove your faith?
- Covering or Concealing — Revelation 3:18; Isaiah 61:10Laodicea was known for fine garments, yet Jesus said they were naked. Where are Christians today tempted to “cover” themselves with performance or image? How does Christ’s righteousness free us to walk in honesty?
- Seeing or Self-Deceiving — Revelation 3:17–18; Ephesians 1:18Jesus exposes the gap between “you say” and “you are.” Why is self-deception so spiritually dangerous? What practices help keep our spiritual eyes open?
- Presence or Performance — Revelation 3:20Laodicea had church activity without Christ’s presence. Where can performance or routine sneak into your walk with God? How can we ensure Jesus is not outside of what we’re doing “in His name”?
- Bonus: Throne or Lukewarmness — Revelation 3:21; 1 John 5:4–5What does it mean to “overcome” according to John? How does Christ’s victory empower your own spiritual endurance?
