This sermon explores 2 Corinthians 12:7–10 by reframing weakness as the very means through which Christ’s power is displayed. It argues that Paul’s “thorn” is not a single issue but the ongoing hardships of his ministry, given by God to keep him humble and dependent. Through suffering, Paul learns that God’s grace is not removal of difficulty but sustaining presence and power within it. As a result, Paul moves from pleading for relief to boasting in weakness, recognizing it as the platform for Christ’s work in him. The sermon calls believers to trust God in their own “thorns,” seeing them not as obstacles but as instruments through which God accomplishes His purposes. Thank you for watching a Landmark video. Sermon Notes

23 Are they servants of Christ? I am a better one—I am talking like a madman—with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings, and often near death. 24 Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the forty lashes less one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea; 26 on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers; 27 in toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, in hunger and thirst, often without food,[a] in cold and exposure. 28 And, apart from other things, there is the daily pressure on me of my anxiety for all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to fall, and I am not indignant?

Jesus’ power will manifest itself through that pain and God will be glorified.

If God does not take the thorn he will give grace.

The formula for success in God’s economy is simple: “When I am weak, then I am strong.”
