The Beast Who Is Marked: Satan’s Counterfeit Christ | Revelation 13:1-10 [#37] | Matthew Maher
Revelation 12 took us behind the scenes of human history and revealed the Dragon behind the war. Revelation 13 brings that invisible conflict into the visible world by introducing the Beast through whom the Dragon will exercise his authority. Rising from the sea with seven heads and ten horns, this coming ruler will combine political domination, satanic power, religious deception, and worldwide worship. In this study of Revelation 13:1–10, Pastor Matthew Maher helps us examine the Beast’s connection to Daniel’s kingdoms, Satan’s counterfeit Christ, his apparent mortal wound and recovery, his forty-two months of authority, and his war against the Tribulation saints. Yet the repeated words “given” and “granted” remind us that even the Beast’s authority is borrowed, bounded, and temporary. Evil may be permitted for a season, but it is never sovereign—God still determines its reach and expiration. Revelation does not reveal the Beast so that we will become fascinated with the Antichrist, but so that we will remain faithful to Jesus Christ. The world will marvel at power, follow the counterfeit, and worship the Beast; the saints must endure and remain with the Lamb. In the end, the final dividing line is not powerful or powerless, rich or poor, or political left or right—it is Beast or Lamb.
