The Mark of the Beast: Satan’s Counterfeit Prophet | Revelation 13:11-18 [#38] | Matthew Maher
In Revelation 13:11–18, John introduces the second Beast—the False Prophet—who appears like a lamb but speaks like a dragon. His role is to authenticate the Antichrist’s claims, perform supernatural signs, deceive the earth, and direct the world’s worship toward the Beast. Scripture warns that signs and wonders are not, by themselves, evidence of God’s work. Deuteronomy 13 teaches that even when a sign occurs, the true test is where it leads. Does it glorify Jesus Christ and agree with God’s Word, or does it redirect worship toward another? False wonder leads to false worship. The False Prophet will animate an image of the Beast, demand worship under threat of death, and enforce allegiance through economic coercion. No one will be permitted to buy or sell without the Beast’s mark, name, or number. In this message, Pastor Matthew Maher examines the False Prophet, the image and mark of the Beast, and the meaning of 666—while calling believers to biblical discernment and uncompromising allegiance to Jesus Christ. Before the Beast places a mark upon people’s bodies, worship has already marked their hearts. We become like what we behold, and we are shaped by what we worship. Bow to the Beast and be marked by the Beast. Bow to the Lamb and be marked by the Lamb. Scripture: Revelation 13:11–18; John 16:12–15; Matthew 7:15–16; Deuteronomy 13:1–3; Daniel 3; Psalm 115; 2 Corinthians 3:18 Be sure to subscribe to the Landmark Church YouTube Channel and wherever you access podcasts to stay updated on all upcoming sermons.
