40:13

In this message from Psalm 33, Pastor Matthew Maher takes us from the Word that creates to the Eye that sees — showing how God’s truth brings order to a world that celebrates confusion. Creation still obeys God’s command. Culture does not. And Psalm 33 draws a bold line between heaven’s counsel and man’s collapse. What happens when nations reject God’s Word? What does God see when He looks at the world — and at us? Why is worship our first response to a world out of order? In this sermon you’ll learn: — Why praise is the believer’s posture (vv. 1–3) — How God’s Word creates and calibrates the world (vv. 4–9) — Why nations fall when they follow their own counsel (vv. 10–12) — What God sees in every heart and every motive (vv. 13–15) — Why human strength fails but God’s mercy saves (vv. 16–19) — And how waiting on the Lord is not weakness — but worship (vv. 20–22) Key Line: “When you see God’s hand in everything, you can trust His heart in anything.” If this message encourages you, subscribe and share it with someone who needs biblical clarity in confusing times. Sermon Notes

When you see God’s hand in everything, you can trust His heart in anything.

Psalm 33:1-3

Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful. Praise the Lord with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy.

The redeemed don’t need a reason to rejoice — redemption is reason enough.

Psalm 33:4-9

For the word of the Lord is right, And all His work is done in truth. He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.

God’s power didn’t just build creation — it bound it to His order.

Psalm 33:10-12

The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.

God frustrates human rebellion and orchestrates heaven’s redemption.

A nation that rejects God’s Word will collapse under its own counsel.

Psalm 33:13-15

The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. From the place of His dwelling He looks On all the inhabitants of the earth; He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works.

The Lord doesn’t just watch what we do; He weighs why we do it.

Psalm 33:16-19

No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength. Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy, To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine.

No one can hide from His sight, but anyone can rest in His watch.

Psalm 33:20-22

Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.
