- Solomon tells us not to hate God’s chastening because it is profitable to us as long as we apply the right Attitude, rest in the right Assurance and give it the right Application. Please share a time in your life when you experienced God’s chastening and how each of these shaped you in this time.
- Proverbs 3:17 states that the Wisdom of God provides Pleasantness and Peace, and that pleasantness is certain, solid and lasting. Explain how that is different from the pleasantness and peace the world offers.
- Solomon tells us in Proverbs 3:19-20 that God’s wisdom is the foundation of all creation. The very wisdom that created the universe and holds it together is available to us at any time without measure. What does that mean to you? Why are we sometimes resistant to call on God’s wisdom?

The Wisdom of God’s Correction is profitable
Proverbs 3:11-14
11 My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord,
Nor detest His correction;
12 For whom the Lord loves He corrects,
Just as a father the son in whom he delights.
13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
And the man who gains understanding;
14 For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver,
And her gain than fine gold Lord
God’s chastening is profitable to us if we apply the right ATTITUDE.
Psalm 105:16-21
16 Moreover He called for a famine in the land; He destroyed all the provision of bread. 17 He sent a man before them– Joseph–who was sold as a slave. 18 They hurt his feet with fetters, He was laid in irons. 19 Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the Lord tested him.
God’s chastening is profitable to us if we rest in the right ASSURANCE.
God’s chastening is profitable to us if we rest in the right APPLICATION.
Proverbs 3:14
14 For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold.
The Possession of God’s Wisdom is Precious
Proverbs 3:15
Job 28:12-15
12 “But where can wisdom be found?
And where is the place of understanding?
13 Man does not know its value,
Nor is it found in the land of the living.
14 The deep says, ‘It is not in me’;
And the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’
15 It cannot be purchased for gold,
Nor can silver be weighed for its price
Bruce Waltke - The Book of Proverbs
“Job muses that precious metals and jewels can be raided by human ingenuity and prowess, but wisdom –more valuable than both—cannot be thus acquired.
People, Job realizes, have neither the taste nor the ability to buy it.
True Wisdom is found in another dimension than in earthbound activities.
God reserves for Himself the finding and assessing of wisdom, and the revelation of it to people who apprehend it by the divine gift of faith.”
The Result of God’s Wisdom is Prosperity
Proverbs 3:16
16 Length of days is in her right hand, In her left hand riches and honor
Robin Sharma - The Everyday Hero Manifesto
“Joy, Peace and Freedom are a million times more valuable than Fame, Fortune and Applause…”
John Piper - The Pleasures of God
Three things stand in the way of our complete satisfaction in this world.
One is that nothing has a personal worth great enough to meet the deepest longings of our hearts.
Another is that we lack the strength to savor the best treasures to their maximum worth.
And the third obstacle to complete satisfaction is that our joys here come to an end. Nothing lasts.
The Manifestation of God’s Wisdom is Pleasantness and Peace:
Proverbs 3:17-18
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who retain her.
1. The Pleasantness of God’s Wisdom is Certain
2. The Pleasantness of God’s Wisdom is solid
3. The Pleasantness of God’s Wisdom is Lasting
God’s Wisdom is the foundation of all Creation
Proverbs 3:19-20
19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth, By understanding He established the heavens. 20 By His knowledge the deeps were broken up And the skies drip with dew.
