  1. In the passage in Proverbs chapter 3 Solomon reminds his son: do not forget my teaching, But have your heart comply with my commandments; Is there a teaching from either the Bible, your parents or a mentor that you have never forgotten?
  2. Solomon urges his son: Do not let kindness and truth leave you;Describe how this works. How do you understand how kindness and truth go hand in hand?
  3. Solomon tells us not to be wise in our own eyes but to depend on the Fear of the Lord. He says that if we do that there will be healing to our bodies and refreshment to our bones. What are some of the health benefits discovered for people who practice faith?

A man from Waterbury in Connecticut, United States, faces divorce after his wife found out that he was not actually deaf and dumb, and had been faking it for more than 62 years to avoid having to listen to her. 9th March 2019

Five Commands of a Father to His Son…

Proverbs 3:1-10

Don’t Forget
Don’t Let kindness and truth leave you
Don’t lean on your own understanding
Don’t be wise in your own eyes
Don’t shortchange the Lord

Matthew 7:1–2

Don’t judge, so that you won’t be judged. For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.

Luke 16:15

And He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of people, but God knows your hearts; because that which is highly esteemed among people is detestable in the sight of God.

Proverbs 22:1

A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.

Proverbs 3:3-4

3 Do not let kindness and truth leave you;
Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 So you will find favor and a good reputation
In the sight of God and man

H.A. Ironside:
“The law was truth, but it was truth without grace. This latter having come by Jesus Christ the believer is exhorted to be speaking the truth in love.”

John 8:31-32

31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Don’t lean on your own understanding

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.

David Guzik:
“If trust in God is to be true, it must be complete. To put half trust in God and half trust in self or something else is really failure to trust the Lord at all. We should endeavor to give God all our conscious trust.”

Christiansen:
Into His hands I lay the fears that haunt me,
The dread of future ills that may befall;
Into His hands I lay the doubts that taunt me,
And rest securely, trusting Him for all.

Don’t be wise in your own eyes

Proverbs 3:7-8

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
8 It will be healing to your [c]body
And refreshment to your bones.

Matthew 7:27

27 And the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and its collapse was great.”

Don’t Shortchange the Lord

Proverbs 3:9-10

9 Honor the Lord from your wealth,
And from the first of all your produce;
10 Then your barns will be filled with plenty,
And your vats will overflow with new wine.

Five Commands of a Father to His Son…

Proverbs 3:1-10

Don’t Forget
Don’t Let kindness and truth leave you
Don’t lean on your own understanding
Don’t be wise in your own eyes
Don’t shortchange the Lord
