Landmark Sermons
The Kingdom Is Already Yours | Matthew 5: 1-4 | Nick Johnson | Landmark Church
In this sermon, Jesus begins the Sermon on the Mount by declaring the blessed condition of those who belong to the kingdom of heaven. The Beatitudes are not presented as a checklist of behaviors to earn God’s favor, but as descriptions of the character produced in those whom grace has already claimed. Through the first two Beatitudes, Jesus shows that the poor in spirit recognize their complete dependence on God, while those who mourn grieve over their sin in the light of His holiness. Yet this mourning is not hopeless, because the same God who exposes our need also promises perfect and lasting comfort through Christ.
