In Psalm 29, David doesn’t just describe a thunderstorm—he hears the voice of the Lord in it. The thunder, waves, and lightning become a living sermon of God’s power and majesty. This message explores how the storm reveals His voice, how creation responds to its Creator, and how the same God who thunders over the waters gives His people strength and peace. Sermon Notes

In Psalm 29, creation doesn’t just react to the weather—it responds to its Creator.

Psalm 29:1-2

Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones, Give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

The Lord doesn’t need our worship; we need to worship the Lord.

Psalm 29:3-5

The voice of the Lord is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The Lord is over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; The voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars, Yes, the Lord splinters the cedars of Lebanon.

God’s voice is not just still and small—it’s also the power that stills it all.

Psalm 29:6-9

He makes them also skip like a calf, Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire. The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; The Lord shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth, And strips the forests bare; And in His temple everyone says, “Glory!”

Psalm 29:10

The Lord sat enthroned at the Flood, and the Lord sits as King forever.

Psalm 29:11

The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.

The voice of the Lord both commands the storm and calms the soul.
