When Heaven Stops To Listen (The Seventh Seal) | Revelation 8:1-5 [#26] | Matthew Maher

What happens when Heaven falls silent? In Revelation 8, the Lamb opens the seventh seal, and for the first time in the book, the songs stop, the worship pauses, and Heaven grows silent. Why? What is so significant that even the hosts of Heaven stand in awe? In this message, we explore the profound silence of Revelation 8, the seven angels and seven trumpets, and the powerful connection between the prayers of the saints and the judgments of God. From the bowls of incense in Revelation 5 to the cry of the martyrs in Revelation 6, and finally to the fire cast upon the earth in Revelation 8, we discover that God never forgets the prayers of His people. Why is there silence in Heaven for thirty minutes? What do the seven trumpets represent? How are the prayers of the saints connected to God's unfolding plan? What can believers learn when God seems silent? One of the great lessons of Revelation 8 is this: Just because Heaven is silent doesn't mean Heaven is inactive. Sometimes we only see the dots. God sees the whole picture. Scripture: Revelation 8:1–5 Thank you for watching a Landmark video. 1. Can you think of a time when silence communicated something more powerful than words?

2. Why do you think Heaven becomes silent after chapters filled with worship, praise, and activity?

3. Why do the prayers of the saints appear both before the seals are opened (Rev. 5) and again after the seventh seal (Rev. 8)?

4. Why is it important to remember that God often works behind the scenes before we see what He is doing?

5. Have you ever gone through a season when it felt like God was silent? What helped you continue trusting Him?

6. Read Psalm 46:10. How does "Be still and know that I am God" connect with the silence of Heaven in Revelation 8?

7. The sermon's graphic showed:
  * Revelation 5: Prayers of the Saints
  * Revelation 6: "How Long, O Lord?"
  * Revelation 8: Prayers Rise Again
  * Revelation 8: Fire Cast to Earth
  * The Result: God Was Working the Whole Time
Looking back over your own life, can you identify a situation where you only saw the dots at the time, but later realized God was seeing the whole picture?

Sermon Notes

• The same hands that were nailed to a cross to satisfy God's wrath now hold the scroll to ratify God's wrath.

When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. — Revelation 8:1
Be silent in the presence of the Lord God; for the day of the Lord is at hand, for the Lord has prepared a sacrifice; He has invited His guests. — Zephaniah 1:7

• Just because Heaven is silent doesn't mean Heaven is distant.

And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. — Revelation 8:2
"For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him." — Colossians 1:16
Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel's hand. — Revelation 8:3-4

Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake. — Revelation 8:5

• When the prayers go up, the battle comes down.
