Colin Kaepernick: The Danger of Seeing Everything Through Race | Truth Over Trend with Matthew Maher

In this Truth Over Trend response, Pastor Matthew Maher examines Colin Kaepernick’s view of race, identity, and racism—and the danger of allowing race to become the lens through which we interpret everything. Kaepernick’s story includes experiences with racism that should be called what they are: wrong. But there is a difference between acknowledging that racism shaped some of your experiences and allowing race to become the lens through which you interpret all of your experiences. Racism is real. But race is a terrible religion. The gospel doesn’t pretend ethnicity doesn’t exist, nor does it teach us to ignore our differences. It refuses to let those differences determine our dignity or become our ultimate identity. Our deepest problem isn’t melanin—it’s sin. And our greatest solution isn’t racial consciousness—it’s Christ. Thank you for watching a Landmark video.
