Does the Bible Really Tell Christians to Handle Snakes? | Truth Over Trend with Matthew Maher

Why do some Christians handle venomous snakes in church—and do they actually have biblical support for it? Snake-handling churches point to Mark 16:18: “They will take up serpents.” But Acts 28 shows us what that protection actually looked like when a venomous snake unexpectedly fastened onto Paul. Paul didn’t go looking for the snake. The snake found Paul. There’s a massive difference between trusting God when danger finds you and deliberately creating danger in the name of faith. Matthew 4 reminds us that biblical faith does not manufacture danger and then demand God’s protection. That’s not trusting God. That’s testing God. Put down the snake and pick up the Bible.
