- Solomon wrote: “He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.” What is he telling us about who we should or should not correct? What does it mean to “Chase the Birds”?
- Folly is described as “loud or boisterous” and ignorant. Relate this to personal experience of your own. What is the Dunning Kruger Effect?
- In Proverbs 9, Solomon says that Wisdom has built a house with seven pillars and prepared an elaborate feast for all who seek her. However, Folly sits at the doorway of her house, calling to all who pass by. Explain why Solomon would describe such a contrast? What does it reveal to us?
- What are the markers for the Way of Wisdom and the Way of Folly?

Sermon Notes
Proverbs 2:10-11
When wisdom enters your heart,
And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,
Discretion will preserve you;
Understanding will keep you,
Jason Gray: Everything I Own
Now what would I give for my children’s strength
On the day that they stand alone
I mean what would I give for their strength to stand firm
I’d give everything that I own.

The Response to Correction
Proverbs 9:7–12
“He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself,
And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.
Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you;
Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
For by me your days will be multiplied,
And years of life will be added to you.
If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”
1 Timothy 6:20
“Timothy, protect what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly, empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge””
The greatest barrier to possessing truth is the presumption that you already have it.
Proverbs 9:11-12
For by me your days will be multiplied,
And years of life will be added to you.
If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”
Folly’s Invitation: Proverbs 9: 13–18
A woman of foolishness is boisterous,
She has a lack of understanding and knows nothing.
She sits at the doorway of her house,
On a seat by the high places of the city,
Calling to those who pass by,
Who are going straight on their paths:
“Whoever is naive, let him turn in here,”
And to him who lacks understanding she says,
“Stolen water is sweet;
And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”
But he does not know that the dead are there,
That her guests are in the depths of Sheol
