Texas Representative James Talarico claimed that God is non-binary, appealing to Hebrew grammar, Genesis 1, and the image of God to support his argument. He also argued that transgender children are perfect exactly as they are and that Christians who disagree are using Scripture to hurt children. But does the Bible actually teach any of this? In this response, we examine: • Does Genesis teach that God is both masculine and feminine? • Does grammatical gender determine God's identity? • What does Scripture reveal about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? • What does it mean to be made in the image of God? • Can compassion exist apart from truth? Every child bears the image of God. Every child has dignity. Every child deserves compassion. But compassion does not give us permission to rewrite Scripture. Truth Over Trend: When you have to redefine God, redefine sin, redefine male and female, and redefine love itself to defend your position, your position is no longer coming from heaven.
